Dear Edgemont Families,

Welcome to Distance Learning in Edgemont! The administration and staff have been working overtime since at least last Thursday to prepare for a situation that keeps changing from one day to the next; we are grateful they are making themselves available to us online so our kids can continue to learn during this difficult period.

We know that social distancing can be very stressful, and life may feel chaotic as parents try to work from home and home-school children simultaneously. We want to encourage you to reach out to your friends and neighbors online so we can stay connected as a community. Try taking some deep breaths and enjoy the opportunity for family dinners. Calm.com has some great, free resources for breathing and meditation. Our kids have been taking walks in local parks and video-chatting with classmates, not to mention attempting to mix some real board games in with the video games. Tonight we did a family puzzle which never happens!

With regard to PTA events, we are continuing to monitor the situation. At the moment, we are scheduled to return to the school buildings on April 1st, although, as Dr. Kniewel and BoE President Alec Clarke point out in their message to the community, this could change at any time and we should be prepared for the possibility of a longer school closure. All we can say with certainty, for now, is that Pizza Day #2 and Play auditions have been postponed (in addition to the Science Fair), and we hope to be able to reschedule all of them later in the spring.

We are watching the situation with regard to Spring After School Clubs particularly closely. Clubs are scheduled to begin April 14th, which means they may still start on schedule, even in the event of two additional weeks of school closure. Additionally, we are cautiously optimistic that the Festival of Nations and the Spring Fete will proceed as planned. In any case, we will keep you informed to the best of our ability as this situation continues to unfold.

We appreciate your patience and flexibility. Please feel free to contact us if you need any support, or if you have a suggestion for programming we could run from a distance. We're sending you all good wishes for health and a sense of humor during this challenging time.

Warmly,
Fred Carret (GV) and Lauren Lappen (SP)
